Today, the Government of New Brunswick announced that Avenir Minerals has been selected to enter into negotiations for an exclusive exploration agreement for the former Lake George antimony mine site.
Harvey Rural Community was advised in advance that this announcement would be made.
“This announcement marks another important step in the Province’s process for the Lake George site,” said Mayor Richard Corey. “We appreciate the Province’s continued communication with the Municipality and remain committed to ensuring residents receive timely, accurate information as this work progresses.”
The Province has indicated that negotiations toward an exploration agreement are the next phase of the process. Any future exploration activities or project development will continue to be subject to regulatory requirements, environmental review processes, Indigenous consultation, and other applicable approvals.
Harvey Rural Community also welcomes Avenir Minerals’ stated commitment to working collaboratively with local communities, Indigenous Peoples, and other stakeholders as discussions advance.
As the process continues, the Municipality will:
• Maintain ongoing communication with provincial officials and Avenir Minerals.
• Monitor project milestones and regulatory processes.
• Share factual updates with residents as information becomes publicly available.
• Continue advocating for the interests of Harvey Rural Community throughout the process.
