REGIONAL AQUATIC CENTRE UPDATE

REGIONAL AQUATIC CENTRE UPDATE

As a continuation in the development of the regional aquatic centre planning project announced June 28, 2023, the next stage required is community commitment.

Votes will be made on May 23, 2024 at a special meeting of the board for the Capital Region Service Commission. The 14 member board for the CRSC is comprised of a representative from each of the 14 communities in the region. Most are the mayors.

The outcome of the votes will determine Harvey Rural Community’s involvement in the project.

Votes are weighted based on population. Fredericton’s vote counts as 7; Oromocto’s vote counts as 2; The rest of the communities’ votes count as 1 each for a total of 21 votes.

Even if a community votes no it will not discontinue their participation in the project if the majority vote is a yes.

If the vote majority is for approval, this will have mandatory property tax rate implications which at the moment the figures are unknown.
